General Scirocco Talk • Oil leak

Hello everyone, knew to the website here! I own a 2009 2.0 TSI Scirocco on almost 94k miles!

I seem to have spotted some oil on the underside of my upper timing chain cover. Which is dropping down to the under tray, and then onto the ground after a journey. I’m hoping it’s from the upper timing chain cover as that’ll be the easiest fix.

Start of 2024 I had my timing chain and tensioner replaced as a precautionary measure. Shortly after that I had my turbo sent off for a rebuild to fix the wastegate rattle. My mechanic did informed me recently that he did not change the 2 rubber seals for the upper timing chain cover. So I’m assuming disturbing it and not replacing it has caused a small leak.

Don’t really fancy spending £200 or £300 on a genuine cover and seals, so I’m hoping some of you helpful lot have changed these parts before and can suggest anything? I’ll probably give it a go changing it myself. Should be fairly simple minus the 2 bottom bolts haha! I’m happy to struggle trying though. I can get a VAICO cover and both seals on AutoDoc for about £70. But there’s also a lot cheaper alternatives as well.

Any help on parts or links would be amazing. Spent so much on this car since getting it, and there’s also more problems arising!! Just want this oil leak fixed before my MOT in November.

Many thanks guys :)
